Throughout the centuries, Sodalite was often mistaken for Lapis Lazuli, which is why the ancient Egyptians often used it interchangeably. Both the Greeks and the Romans were convinced that Sodalite could improve concentration and logical thinking, so this stone was considered a sapphire. In the 19th century, the stone was rediscovered as a healing stone.

Sodalite is a dark blue rock that is often mistaken for Lapis Lazuli.

The two are therefore relatives of each other. Usually, Sodalite has white Calcite veins that appear very clearly on the surface, but the most beautiful varieties are the pure blue ones. Although Sodalite is almost always blue, it can also be red, pink or green. Sodalite owes its name to the Latin ‘sodium’, which gives the chemical compound ‘sodium’, and the Greek word ‘lithos’, which means ‘stone’.

Sodalite is mainly mined in countries such as Canada, India, Namibia, America and Brazil.

Sodalite helps on the physical level especially with throat complaints and voice problems such as hoarseness, loss of voice, sore throat, etc. The aluminium present in Sodalite has a favourable effect on the nerves, which makes it an excellent stone for (tension) headaches. It also increases our resistance to disease and has a disinfecting effect.
